Welcome to Liam's Groove House!

I’m Liam Oulton, a bass instructor and musician based in Belmont, MA, teaching lessons out of my home studio. My approach is built entirely around each student’s goals rather than a fixed curriculum. Every player is different, so I focus on understanding what motivates you and shaping each lesson around that.

In our lessons we work through practical exercises, learn songs that inspire you, and take on new challenges that keep you growing while keeping it enjoyable. My studio is a clean, professional, and comfortable space where students can focus, experiment, and enjoy the process of learning. My goal is to help you build real confidence on your instrument, play the music you love, and continue discovering your own sound.

More About Me

Liam Oulton is a bassist, music educator, and producer based in the Boston area. He began playing music at a young age as a way to cope with health challenges, eventually pursuing a degree in Professional Music at Berklee College of Music. He has been teaching for several years, including work with students of different ages and experience levels, and has further developed his teaching approach through coursework such as The Private Studio Instructor with Jess Perry.

Known for his versatility and feel, Liam is an in-demand bassist specializing in rock, pop, jam bands, and indie music. His playing combines strong groove, melodic instinct, and a deep sense of dynamics, supporting each song while adding character and movement where it matters. He brings this same musical approach into his teaching, helping students build strong fundamentals while developing their own sound and sense of expression. He has shared the stage with Jay Faires of Jerry Tone Store, David Rubin of Diamond Blues and Daydream, Shallow Pools, Sunset Mission, and members of Morphine and Bearly Dead.

Liam is also the founder, songwriter, and producer of Munde, an experimental jam rock band. In Fall 2026, he will release a full-length album under his own name, marking a significant milestone. His experience as a producer and songwriter allows him to help students see music beyond the technical side of the instrument, connecting bass playing to creativity, arrangement, and self-expression.

As an educator, Liam’s teaching is rooted in empathy and exploration. Influenced by mentors like Victor Wooten, Mike Woods of Damone, Kevin Barry, who has worked with Jackson Browne and the J. Geils Band, and Daniel Morris, he encourages students to unlock their creativity, develop confidence on the instrument, and build a musical voice that feels personal and authentic.
